About Me

Since an early age I can remember watching my mum and nana baking all manner of pastries, scones and dumplings. I inherited a family love of food and a passion for cooking and baking which at one time led me to enter a cake decorating contest at my local town show. I remember being so proud of my highly commended rosette. On leaving secondary school, I was tempted to take the vocational route and train as a chef, but I was spurred on by my friends to do my A levels and get to university. I have no regrets, my degree in History and subsequent Graduate Diploma in Law have enabled me to better myself, meet my partner and work abroad for two years as an English Language teacher in South Korea.

However, while working in Asia I realised I am at heart a food enthusiast. Food is everywhere and it brings people of all cultures together. I have enjoyed finding an avenue to explore and record all the wonderful and diverse smells, tastes and experiences I have day to day. I now immerse myself in all things food in my daily work, previously managing back of house at the famous Yorkshire Bettys Cafe Tearooms and now training individual learners in catering and hospitality. I love living in an amazing foodie town like Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Through Lizzie's Tasty Journey, I hope to reveal a few ideas, recipes, travel info and foods to sample both at home and abroad.
